Pokhara’s bewitching beauty has been the subject of many travel writers. Its pristine air, spectacular backdrop of snowy peaks, serene lakes and surrounding greenery make it ‘the jewel in the Himalaya’, a place of remarkable natural beauty. With the magnificent Annapurna range forming the backdrop and the serenity of three major lakes Phewa, Rupa and Begnas. Pokhara is the ultima te destination for relaxation. Pokhara Valley, gateway to the Annapurna region where many a trekker finds his Shangri-la, sits high on the list of ‘must visit’ places in Nepal.

Pokhara is the third largest city of Nepal with an area of 55.22 Square Km. and a population of 264,991 inhabitants, making one of the densely populated city. It is located at 28.25 Degree North and 83.99 Degree East.and 827 m. above the sea level. It has (closely) 2,00.000 population. The city is located approximately 200 km west of the country’s capital, Kathmandu. It serves as the headquarters of Kaski District, Gandaki Zone of the Western Development Region. Pokhara is the most popular tourist destination in Nepal. Three out of the ten highest mountains in the world Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu are within 30 miles of the city, so that the northern skyline of the city offers a very close view of the Himalayas. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit through the ACAP region of the Annapurna ranges in the Himalayas.

Pokhara is the largest tourist city in the country, home to great Himalayan trails, residence of a large number of British Gorkha soldier. This makes Pokhara the most expensive city in the country, with the cost of living index of 95. Pokhara is in the northwestern corner of the Pokhara Valley, which is a widening of the Seti Gandaki valley that lies in the midland region of the Himalayas. In this region the mountains rise very quickly and within 30 km, the elevation rises from 1,000 m to over 7,500 m. As a result of this sharp rise in altitude the area of Pokhara has one of the highest precipitation rates in the country (3,350 mm/year in the valley to 5600 mm/year in Lumle. The Seti Gandaki (White River) and its tributaries have created several gorges and canyons in and around the whole city which gives intriguingly long sections of terrace features to the city and surrounding areas. These long sections of terraces are interrupted by gorges which are hundreds of meters deep. In the south the city borders on Phewa Lake (4.4 km2) at an elevation of about 827 m above sea level, and Lumle at 1,740 m in the north of the city touches the base of Annapurna mountain range. Three eight-thousand meter tall peaks Dhaulagiri , Annapurna, Manaslu can be seen from the city.

The Machhapuchhre also known as Fishtail with an elevation of 6,993 m is the closest to the city. The porous underground of the Pokhara valley favors the formation of caves and several caves can be found within the city limits. In the south of the city, a tributary of the Seti flowing out of the Phewa Lake disappears at Patale Chhango, also called Davis Falls, into an underground gorge, to reappear 500 meters further south. To the south-east of Pokhara city is the municipality of Lekhnath, a recently established town in the Pokhara valley, home of Begnas Lake. The climate of the city is sub-tropical; however, the elevation keeps temperatures moderate: summer temperatures average between 25 to 35 °C, in winter around – 2 to 15 °C.

Pokhara is taken as one of the best visiting places in the world. It is situated in Kaski district of Western Nepal. There are many big cities in our county Nepal. Among them Pokhara is one of the most beautiful city. It is surrounded by the Hills, Himalayas and the Green forest. It is also located on the lap of the Macchapuchre and Annapurna Himalaya. It is also called seven lake-city. There many lakes located in Pokhara like: – Phewa Lake, Begnash Lake, Rupa Lake etc. Lakes add the beauties of Pokhara. We can get boat there for relaxation on rent. Thousands of tourists visit these lakes day by day .On the side of the Fewa Lake there are many restaurants, resorts and hotels. These resorts are expensive for local tourists but cheaper for the rich one but other cannot afford it. The beauty, they say, lies in the eyes of a beholder. That might be true to something beautiful, but what you want to tell about something sublime. If there is something that challenges Biblical Garden of Eden in its splendor and magnificence, it’s Pokhara– the ultimate destination for the wanderlusts and those who appreciate, of course, beauty in its pristine glory. It is also called city of temples. Bhadrakali, Bindhabasini, Talbarahi and other temples are found here. Here some interested places like David fall, Mahendra Cave, Bat Cave are also located here. It is located in the Western Development Region of Nepal and 200 km. far from the Capital city of Kathmandu. It is the main tourist area of Nepal. Tourists come from all over the world to visit Pokhara. It is surrounded by the green hills and snow falling mountains in northern side. We can view the clear scenery of the white and shining diamond like mountain Machhapuchhre and Annapurna in the morning. We can reach at the base of Annapurna in just two days from Pokhara. This area is like the heaven the most beautiful area in Nepal.

Pokhara is not a old city so that we cannot get here any historical things. It is a modern city where we can get every modern equipment which need for all modern people. Here is every facility like road, drinking water, electricity, hospitals, hotel and resorts to spend holidays. The main places which can be seen in Pokhara are Devis Falls, Lakeside (Fewatal), Mahendra Gufa, Pame, International Mountain Museum, etc.

The main business market of the Pokhara is Prithivi Chowk, Mahendrapul, Chipledhunga which is the heart of the city. Where we can get shopping malls, hospitals, business offices, educational institution, universities, etc. We can get taxi buses etc. to reach different places. The enchanting valley of Pokhara valley is situated at an altitude of 827 meters from sea level. An incarnation of the religious heaven, this celestial city is also known as the “city of seven lakes”. Just 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, it is linked by Air and by road from Kathmandu and the Indian border Sunauli. Pokhara offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Manaslu, five peaks of Annapurna and others. This is one of the few places in the world to provide such a dramatic view in a sub-tropical setting. The nearest snow-capped mountain, Fishtail, is less than 30 kilometers from Pokhara. Pokhara’s numerous lakes offer fishing, boating and swimming.
